Costumes and Traditions
New Zealand Food
New Zealand is an island nation with itswaters containing a large variety of fish and sea but meat has been the main preference for meals.
Breakfast
A typical New Zealand breakfast consists of cereal and some toasts accompanied by a cup of coffee, tea or a glass os juice or milk. Sometimes on the weekend there is time for a cooked breakfast.
Lunch
Normally you can have some sandwiches or hot peas for lunch though some people enjoy the healthier salads and fruit. Sometimes New Zealand has got a 'Sundar lunch' with roast beef and roast potatoes, all slowly cooked in the oven.
Desserts
The favourite desserts in New Zealand is the Paulova. It is a type of meregue covered in whipped cream, then, topped with fresh drink such as Kiwi fruit.
Lemon and Paeroa (L and P) : the New Zealand Fizzy Drink
Originaly produced in the small town of Paeroa in 1907, it was made from local natural mineral water and lemon. It is now sold troughout New Zealand and it's considered and icon of New Zealand. Today, in the town of Paeroa, you will see a 7 metre tall replica of a bottle of Lemon and Paeroa.

The most common beers to be found in New Zealand are Lemon Red, Steinglager, DB, Export Gold, Macs Gold, Speights an tui. There are many more samaller breweries producing their own beer too.

The spectacular Southern Alps of the South Island have their habits permanently capped at numerous glaciers. There are more than 19 mountain peaks over 3,000 metres high. In the centre of the Island there is a chain of active volcanoes.
Both Islands contain fertile plans of grazing, large forests, natural sandy beaches and fast-flowing rivers.
There are many lakes in the two islands. On the southwest coast of South Island, the Southern Alps meet the ocean, forming a serie of stinning fjords.

Area
The nearest countries to the New Caledonia, Fiji and Tonga.
It consists of two main islands, North Island and South Island separated by Cook Strait.
Greography
New Zealand is located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean and about 1.600 kilometres east of Australia.
New Zealand Flag
New Zealand flag is blue with the Union Flag on the upper left side and four red stars with white edges on the right.
Political System
New Zealand is a parliamentary representative monarchy. The basic system is similar to Westminster system although a number of significant modifications have been made. The head o estate is Queen Elizabeth II, who is represented by the Governor-General and the head of government is the Prime Minister who chairs the Cabinet drawn from an elected Parliament.

Majestic Theatre demolition well under way
1930s heritage building almost gone
Demolition of the Majestic Theatre is well under way.Work to dismantle the building on the corner of Manchester and Lichfield streets began on March 31, despite heritage group Historic Places Canterbury battling to prevent demolition because it believed the building could be fixed and restored.
The future of the 1930s-era building - the city's first fully steel-framed building - had been in doubt since its inclusion in the Christchurch Central Development Unit's street-widening plans for Manchester St.
It was also deemed a dangerous building by the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority.

New Zealand, like most countries, celebreted the typical Christmas and Easter, and again throughtout the year, also organizes its typical and traditional culture reminiscent of New Zealand town celebrations throughout music, dance and recreation of its traditions.

Russel Crowe. Actor. He was born in 1964 in Wellington city. He won an Oscar for best actor in 2000 for the film 'Gladiator'.
